NEW VISUALS

The images featured above are the negative cuttings from my laser cut silk designs.  My laser technician and I always thought they looked so beautiful and eye catching but I had no idea what to do with them in terms of adding depth to my project.  UNTIL an image I found on The Window Shopper blog gave me an idea.

This is a photo from the window display of Alexander McQueen in January this year in London.
As I have been looking at other ways of progressing into the fashion industry apart from design, this led me to another way of getting a grip on a slightly different area... visual merchandising.  Therefore I tried to create a visual merchandising piece that was part of my design project and would accentuate the mood, feel and delicacy of my sample collection.

After lots of experimenting with sticky back vinyl, sticky back plastic and engraving, I came to a method in which I could produce these pieces simply.  No backing, just balance.  All of these pieces on the back of the perspex are engraved around and therefore are attached around the edges lightly but not permanently, adding to the delicate, uneven, slightly fallen apart style.

Images of how they work within my degree show will be coming soon.
